The purpose of this article is to explain the steps to connect the MRP Live for Drag Racing client to the PortaTree timing system.
Step 1: Download the latest version of MRP Live for Drag
The latest version is: 2.0.1784.0
Download and install onto your announcer machine, if it is connected to the internet. Otherwise, download and install onto a separate machine from your timing system that is connected to the timing network and the internet.
Download here
Step 2: Connect MRP Live for Drag
-
If you are using a separate machine, connect that machine to the local timing system network router using an ethernet cable. You will also need to be sure it is connected your internet source (wi-fi or otherwise) as well.
- No need to worry about a network bridge, or any other configuration.
-
Get the IP address of the timing network's Ethernet connection.
- Open the Settings on your machine
- Click on Network & Internet
- Click on the Ethernet connection
- If using Windows 10, you will need to click the Ethernet connection again
-
Look for the “IPv4 Address” listed there
- Once located, copy that IPv4 address, you will see where to paste it in step 3.
- You can also find the IP Address through the Command Prompt on your machine. You can find the directions on how to do that HERE.
- Once located, copy that IPv4 address, you will see where to paste it in step 3.
- Open MRP Live for Drag Racing (MRP Logo Icon) from your desktop.
- In the Race Data section, place the IP Address found in the step above into the left box and a Port number of 50000 into the right box.
-
Go to your MRP Dashboard and follow the steps below to find the proper connection code for your event.
-
Select Race Management (Checkered Flag) from the left navigation bar
-
That should take you to your next scheduled event.
- If not, click on the date/track name of the event at the top and select the desired event (red arrow in image below).
-
That should take you to your next scheduled event.
- On the Race Management screen, select MRP Live (Lightning Bolt) from the left gray navigation bar
- Copy the MRP Live Connection Code (red rectangle in image below) from the top left section
-
Select Race Management (Checkered Flag) from the left navigation bar
- Paste the MRP Live Connection Code copied above into the MRP Live Code box in your MRP Live for Drag Racing
-
Select Connect on your MRP Live for Drag Racing
- If properly connected it should look like the image below
Step 3: Connect Portatree to MRP Live for Drag Racing
- Open the PortaTree Announcer program to activate the timing feed.
- Check "Enable NHRA Live Timing"
-
Do Not Check “Send in Real Time”
- If checked, this sends incremental data sensor by sensor and NOT all at once after the finish line.
-
Check “Send Remote”
- This will bring up the IP Addr and Port text boxes
- In the IP Addr text box, enter the SAME IP Address that you entered into your MRP Live for Drag Racing
- Enter 50000 into the Port text box
-
Click "Save"
- It should save almost immediately. If it doesn’t, please double check your IP address following the steps above.
To check that the live timing is active, look in the upper left corner of your announcer screen. If the Live Timing button is green (like in the image below) it means the live timing is turned on. If it ever becomes gray you should double check your IP Address and reconnect following step 7.
Installation/Connection Troubleshooting
| Issue | Meaning | Solution |
| Error 2502 or 2503 during installation of MRP for Drag Racing | This error code appears when the temporary file on your computer can not be written to |
Log into the computer as an admin or follow the steps in one of the links below. |
| PortaTree Announcer’s screen takes a long time to save or doesn’t save | There is an issue with your IP Address either in one or both MRP and PortaTree | Follow Step 2, above, to verify that the IP Address you have is correct and matches in both MRP and PortaTree |
| You aren’t seeing an IPv4 Address under your Ethernet adapter Ethernet section in your command prompt | Your USB port, cable, or any adapter you might be using is bad. |
Try one or more of the following:
|
| Your computer won’t allow you to have your Wi-Fi and Ethernet connected at the same time | Your computer is automatically prioritizing your connections allowing only one to be “active” at a time |
You will need to set the priority of your Wi-Fi connection to 1 to allow both to be connected at the same time. To do this, follow the steps in the article below. |
| Your MRP Live for Drag Racing is receiving data (you can see data in the Information section of MRP Live for Drag Racing) but it isn’t being sent to your profile/the app | There is a firewall blocking your timing data from being sent online |
Follow the steps in the article below to turn off your firewall |
